Tens of thousands of people marched along Sydney Road in Brunswick today in response to the death of Jill Meagher. The 29-year old Irish-Australian woman was raped and murdered while walking the 700m distance to her home from a bar in the inner-city Melbourne suburb.

Her body was found in a shallow grave 50km north-west of Melbourne on Friday morning, almost a week after she disappeared in the early hours of September 22. Coburg man Adrian Ernest Bayley, 41, has been charged with her rape and murder.

Ms Meagher was originally from Ireland but spent part of her childhood in Perth. She moved to Melbourne with her husband in 2009 and worked for local radio station 774 ABC Melbourne.
